My Earliest Childhood Memory

My earliest childhood memory is, believe it or not, taking my first step. I clearly remember the event.

I remember trying to stand up leaning against the wall in our living room. I kept falling over but kept trying. Eventually, I got it and turned around outstretching my arms to keep my balance. Then I took my first step. I remember my mum running towards me and picked me up praising me. I even remember the tone of her voice, not her exact words though. Apparently, I was just under the age of 1 then. I can also recall the excited feeling I had when I turned around and took my first step. That feeling was similar to what I’d felt when I rode my bicycle for the first time without stabilisers.

Some experts would say that events like this are only remembered through hearing about it in later conversations etc., but I don’t agree with that.

I don’t know why I still remember the day when I took my first step, but it might be something to do with the feeling I got from the experience. Strong feelings/emotions might be linked to creating long-term memories – for me, at least.

What’s your earliest childhood memory? It would be interesting to hear yours!
